Free Blood Pressure Checks
You may visit any fire station for a free blood pressure check.
What Your Blood Pressure Means:
- Your blood pressure is measured twice.
- Once, as the pressure in your vessels when the heart is pumping (called the systolic)
- the other as the pressure when your heart is at rest (called the diastolic)
The blood pressure is recorded as systolic/diastolic and is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg).
The rule of thumb for determining an adult’s normal blood pressure is:
- Systolic – 100 mm Hg plus your age up to 150 mm Hg (minus 8 – 10 mm Hg for women).
- Diastolic – should be between 65 and 90 mm Hg.
